SURGE is being developed by the Office of the Vice Chancellor
for Research and Graduate Education under the direction of Vice Chancellor
Gary K. Ostrander.
The purpose of SURGE is to allow university faculty, staff and administrators
to share accomplishments with their colleagues in a wide range of research
and graduate education related areas via an easy to use web interface.
Using this tool, Colleges and the Chancellor's office will be able to track
in real-time a large number of previously difficult-to-track indicators
such as faculty research interests, grant funding trends, and faculty
accomplishments such as publications, awards, and presentations. In addition,
services such as disseminating new RFP's to faculty whose interests match
the grant will be automated to increase funding opportunities.
SURGE is built on a MySQL database backend and a PHP powered web interface
hosted by ITS. It is based on a system developed by the College of Education
who created it as part of an effort to improve reporting efficiency and accuracy
across the College.
The College of Education and the Law School have begun entering their data
but anyone with a UH login can now login, create their profile and begin entering
their accomplishments.
If you have any questions about the system or if we haven't met with your college yet
to discuss what this system can do for your data gathering needs, please feel free
to contact us via the Support link on the left hand menu and we will get right back
to you.
